Privacy policy and terms in one place.

Overview

Balu is a private video check-in app. Privacy is fundamental to the product design: the app is prompted, private by default, and built without a social feed or audience.

We collect the minimum information needed to operate the service, sync signed-in accounts, support reminders and subscriptions, and let you revisit your personal archive over time. Reflection content stays private to your account, and we do not sell your personal information.

What we collect

• Account information such as your email address, display name, authentication provider identifiers, and account metadata used to personalize the app.
• Reflection data such as prompt text and source, mood tags, prompt preferences, task outcomes, transcript text, and upload state needed to run core features. That reflection content is not sent through website telemetry.
• Check-in media, including videos and thumbnails, which may be stored locally on your device and in private cloud storage when you are signed in.
• Notification settings such as reminder preferences, timezone, and push token when you allow notifications.
• Limited first-party analytics fields such as landing views, App Store clicks, subscription flow outcomes, campaign parameters, referral codes, route information, and coarse technical context needed to understand acquisition and product reliability.

Authentication and service providers

Balu uses Supabase for account authentication, database storage, and private media storage. Passwords are managed by the auth provider and are not stored in plain text by Balu.

If you choose Google or Apple sign-in, the app uses those providers for authentication. Session tokens are stored securely on-device. Apple also handles billing and subscription management for iOS in-app purchases.

Balu may also rely on service providers for notifications and for AI or transcription features when those are enabled.

Local and cloud storage

Balu keeps a local working copy of your data on-device for a responsive, local-first feel. Signed-in data is also stored in Balu cloud infrastructure to support sync, private playback, retention handling, reminders, billing state, and recovery.

Storage is private and scoped to your account. Some older archive access and memory behavior can vary by plan, which is why the app may show locked archive states for older check-ins on Free.

Notifications and analytics

If you enable notifications, Balu uses your reminder settings and device token to deliver check-in or task-review reminders.

Balu collects a small first-party analytics set in Supabase to understand landing views, App Store clicks, and whether critical subscription flows are working. Website telemetry is limited to campaign, referral, route, and referrer metadata. Product telemetry is limited to high-level funnel and reliability events such as paywall views, plan selections, and purchase, restore, or manage outcomes.

Those analytics events do not include your video files, transcript text, prompt text, task content, or other free-form reflection content.

Your controls

• Delete individual check-ins from within the app.
• Update or remove your display name in Profile.
• Adjust prompt style, notifications, and other profile preferences.
• Sign out to clear local session state from the device.
• Request account deletion or ask privacy questions by emailing support@balulabs.com.

Terms of service

Subscriptions

Balu Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple in-app purchases on iOS. Monthly and annual pricing is shown in-app before purchase, and trial offers only appear when they are available for your account.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at purchase confirmation. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

You can manage or cancel subscriptions in Apple subscription settings or in Balu's in-app manage flow when available.

Service access

Pro features are available while your account has an active Pro entitlement. If Pro ends, your account returns to Free access.

After cancellation or expiration, access to some Pro-only memory features may end. Current feature behavior is always shown in the app itself.
